Too bad my wife has it on her right foot. I did some research online and some experts say that it is because of the very tight shoes with a narrow toe box that she wears or most of women do. But I say it’s hereditary. Why? It is because my father-in-law has bunion as well!

It’s so unsightly and painful that sometimes you think of surgery as the best option. For those who don’t know what is bunion, it’s the inflamed bone of the big toe that appears on the middle side, shoving y our big toe to the next toe like a fallen tree.

It can ruin the alignment of the bones next to the big toe which cause the bottom of the foot to be painful all the time. I think it has something to do with the missing medial arch of the foot. Try to inspect yours. My wife does have the classic flat foot which causes more slips and outbalances that she frequently has.

There are some exercises and alternative bunion pain relief provided by alternative medicine that you can choose upon as follows.

Stretching the big toe is one of the best ways to reduce or eliminate bunion pain. Sit with the legs outstretched on the floor with heels side by side and touching. Loop a thick and stiff rubber band around both big toes. Keeping heels together, move the tops of your leg apart so they form a V shape, hold stretch for 5 to 10 seconds or as tolerated. This will help strengthen the little muscles on the big toe.

For fast bunion relief, ice is the best and obviously the faster option. Apply the ice wrap on a towel, for 10 minute cycles. Meaning, 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off to be done two to three times a day, specially when there is bunion pain. If you have aspirin, you can mix 4 tablets in a basin of warm water and soak the feet for 10 to 15 minutes but if there would be skin irritation, discontinue usage.

Massage is the favorite option for bunion pain. It relieves the aches and releases tight muscles around the foot. You can have this done in a massage parlor. Make emphasis on the tight muscles above your ankle, continuing down to the bottom of your foot, where the arch is supposedly present. This will help increase circulation on that abused area of the foot.
