Dandruff can have many causes. It can be caused by dry scalp which leads to flaking and the excessive shedding of dead skin cells of the scalp.
Dandruff can also be caused by skin conditions like eczema, seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis. In some cases, it can be the result of an overgrowth of a fungus called malassezia – speeding up the lifespan of skin cells in your scalp and thereby irritating it.
There are a lot of anti-dandruff shampoos available in the market and each of them contain chemicals that are supposed to help you get rid of dandruff – whatever the cause is. Still, going natural won’t hurt and will probably be the anti-dandruff remedy you’re looking for without having to spend much.
- Baking Soda
Simply rub baking soda onto your wet hair and rinse off. Do not use shampoo while you are doing this treatment. Baking soda will help release the natural oils from your scalp and will restore your scalp to normal – without the flakes of course! You will initially have to deal with dry hair but it will all get better.
- Coconut Oil and Lemon Juice
Try mixing 1 tablespoon of juice squeezed out from fresh lemons and 5 tablespoons of coconut oil. Mix them well and apply to your scalp. The lemon juice will help relieve itching while the coconut oil is a pretty good hair moisturizer. Massage onto scalp and leave for about 20 minutes. Rinse it off thoroughly and wash your hair again with shampoo.
- Vinegar
After shampooing your hair, rinse it with a mixture of 2 cups of apple cider vinegar and 2 cups of cold water. You can also use apple cider vinegar alone and massage it onto your scalp and rinse off.
